Barcombe Village & Lewes Win Energy Money
Barcombe Energy Group and Ovesco (Ouse Valley Energy Services Company) have won bids of approximately £80k from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF) to carry out household energy efficiency assessments, a renewable energy assessment, community-building energy assessments and a wide range of household retrofits. It's really exciting news for Barcombe and Lewes – we were just two of three communities in the South East to win this funding.
During February Barcombe Energy Group will be sending every household in Barcombe Parish a home energy assessment form – it should be really simple to fill in and not take too long. Ovesco will be working with stakeholders in Mountfield Road Lewes to develop an energy efficiency and renewable power plan for the future.
Barcombe and Ovesco will be holding energy events during February and March when you can come along and fill the forms in with us, get involved, lend a hand, sign-up to oil buying group, learn about plans for a wood buying hub and have some fun at the same time!
In March we will be organising a range of free retrofits for some chosen homes in the village – this will include trialling energy monitors, home draft busting makeovers, free insulation and much more.
The Barcombe Energy Group bid was supported by Barcombe Parish Council and will be administered by Community 21, Ovesco and Communities Matter.
Ollie Pendered from Barcombe Energy Group quote:
This is really exciting for Barcombe Village, we are a community relieant on oil and this low energy assessment funds that we have now won will really help our community improve our energy usage and save money on our household bills.
The Mountfield Road bid for Lewes was supported by Lewes District Council, South Downs College, Priory School, Transition Town Lewes, and will be administered by Ovesco.
Chris Rowland from Ovesco quote:
This is fantastic news! The LEAF funding will build on the work we have already done with Lewes District Council and at Harveys Brewery to develop local owned renewable power and improve energy efficiency in the District.
